Item Import
The Item Import tool is used to import one or more Items from an external file. Item Import can be used to create new Items. Item Import can also update existing Items in the Item Bank. The reasons for importing Items are:
- More rapid development of Items, either for creating or updating. The user does not have to navigate through multiple Item entry pages to set all values.

- Limiting exposure of your Item Banks to external users. By using Import files, external users to CE such as subject matter experts (SME) or contract authors do not have to be trained to use CE or be exposed to the system at all.
Import Files
Item Import supports importing Items from Microsoft® Excel (.xlsx) and Microsoft® Word (.docx) formats. The user can download the import templates using the template hyperlinks. Note: Microsoft® Excel or Microsoft® Word must be installed to open or maintain these files.
Uploading an Import File
Authorised users may create, modify or expire Author records. Note: you may not expire an Author if it is in use (linked to an Item).
Author Entry is reached from the Main Menu, Item Writing → Author Entry
This takes the user to the Author Entry grid. For more on grid navigation, click here.
Special Filters
The Author Entry grid has special filter controls in the title bar.
- Include Expired Records by default is unchecked. This means Author records that have an Expiry Date prior to today are not displayed. When checked, all Author records (including expired) are displayed.
Bulk Actions
The Author grid has bulk actions. Bulk Actions refer to actions taken against a single or multiple selected records. To learn more about selecting records click here. If no records are selected when performing a bulk action, a warning message is displayed.
- Update will apply the specified field changes to all selected records. See Bulk Update.
- Expire will expire the selected records.
- Copy will copy the selected record to another Bank. Note: Bulk Copy of Authors is not available on Banks with 1 depth level. See Banks and Bank Level.

Context Options
Edit General
Navigates to Author Edit General page where the user can maintain general information for the Author record.
Edit Notes and Custom
Navigates to Author Edit Notes and Custom page where the user can maintain notes and custom information for the Author record.
Audit
Navigates to the Audit grid for the selected record.
Usage
Navigates to the Usage grid for the selected record.
