The Item text edit page allows users to edit custom information for an Item record and the Item's stem text and options. For multiple choice type Items, the Item stem text, option text, correct options and values for each option are maintained here. For essay/constructed response type Items, the stem text is maintained here. Once changes are made the user can click the Save button in the bottom right hand corner to commit changes to the database. Note: User permissions might be restricted by Form permissions, Bank permissions or the record being locked.

There are 20 custom fields for the Item tool. They are free from text fields. Once changes are made the user can click the Save button in the bottom right hand corner to commit changes to the database.

Note: the labels for custom fields may be modified via the Custom Label entry form.

Item Writing supports multiple language copies of each Item's text. The Item text consists of it stem text and if a multiple choice type Item its option text. The Language drop downs (green) can be used to select alternate languages for side by side comparison of the Item text. The previews (blue) display the Item text as it would render on an Exam. If Attachments are linked to the Item, their Images/rich text appear in the preview as well. To edit the Item text click the Edit Item Text button (red). This will navigate you to the Item Edit Text Entry. Note: the language text edited is based on the language selected in the Language selector drop down.

Depending on system configuration, not all of these options are available.

Clicking the Web Preview button opens a preview window with the Item text rendered as it would for Online Testing.

Tracking Revisions is a feature that can be added to Item Writing. Edits by users against the Item text are tracked. Whether new text added, text changed or deleted, the edits are tracked by user and displayed in line with the item text with special markup fonts. Clicking the View Revisions button navigates the user to the Item Text Revisions page. To move amongst the Revisions, use the slider control.

Clicking the View Final button opens a preview window with the Item text rendered without any track changes markup. The preview window also has a printer icon in the top right that can be used to print the Item text.

The tab strip at the top of the page allows the user to go back to the Item entry grid Selection, to the Item Edit General page, to the Item Edit Value page, to the Item Edit Competency page, to the Item Edit Reference page, to the Item Edit Meta page, to the Item Edit Attachment page, to the Item Edit Statistics page or Usage page. Audit will navigate to the Audit page and displays Audit information for the selected record. Note: depending on system configuration not all options are available.
