Item Entry

The Item entry tool is used to create and maintain Items which can be added to Exams. Items are “questions” that are posed to Candidates on Exams. They can be multiple choice or constructed response/essay format. All aspects of the Item are maintained including the meta, answer key, the item text, links to Attachments, Authors, Competencies, Copyrights and References.

Authorised users may create, modify or expire Item records. Note: you may not expire an Item if it is in use (linked to an Exam).

Item Entry is reached from the Main Menu, Item Writing → Item Tools → Item Entry

Special Filters

The Item entry grid has special filter controls in the title bar.

  • Language Selector is used to display language specific fields for the Item records. The Item's text and option text fields are language specific. Selecting a different language from the selector displays the alternate language values for these fields in the Item entrygrid.

Advanced Filters

Item selection often requires more complex filtering conditions than the Item entry grid can support. Advanced Filtering gives the user the ability to apply more advanced filters to the Item entry grid.

To show or hide the Advanced Filters click the Show/hide the advanced filter check box.

To apply the Advanced Filters click the Refresh button on the grid toolbar.

Bulk Actions

The Item grid has bulk actions. Bulk Actions refer to actions taken against a single or multiple selected records. To learn more about selecting records click here. If no records are selected when performing a bulk action, a warning message is displayed.

  • Update will apply the specified field changes to all selected records. See Bulk Update.
  • Expire will expire the selected records.
  • Copy will copy the selected record to another Bank. See Banks and Bank Level and Bank Copy
  • Move will move the selected record to another Bank. See Banks and Bank Level and Bank Move
  • Export will export the selected records to a spreadsheet in the same format as used in Item Import. This way, selected items can be exported, modified then re-imported to update the records.
  • Print will open the Build New Document page. Selecting options and clicking the Start Build Document button will create a document consisting of the selected Item records.

Context Options

Right-clicking on a row in the Item grid will open a context menu.

Edit General

Navigates to Item Edit General page where the user can maintain information for the Item record.

Edit Text

Navigates to Item Edit Text page where the user can view and maintain the Item text as well as custom information.

Edit Value

Navigates to Item Edit Value page where the user can maintain score related information about the Item. This information applies to essay/constructed response type Items.

Edit Competency

Navigates to Item Edit Competency page where the user can maintain Competencies linked to the Item. Note: depending on system configuration this option may not be available.

Edit Reference

Navigates to Item Edit Reference page where the user can maintain links to References of the Item.

Edit Attachment

Navigates to Item Edit Attachment page where the user can maintain links to Attachments of the Item.

Edit Meta

Navigates to Item Edit Meta page where the user can maintain rich text fields related to the Item.

Edit Stats

Navigates to Item Stats page where the user can view calculated statistics for the Item.

Clone

Creates a cloned copy of the Item within the same Exam/Item Bank.

Audit

Navigates to the Audit grid for the selected record.

Usage

Navigates to the Usage grid for the selected record.
